FBA calculator UK

Amazon's own calculator stops at its fees. This one carries on to the number that matters: what each sale leaves you after VAT, fulfilment, storage, returns and advertising, on 2026 UK rates.

An estimate from Amazon's published UK rates, not a quote. Amazon's own measurements of your product decide the size tier, and some fees are not included: the £25 monthly Professional plan, inbound placement, prep and labelling, the aged inventory and storage utilisation surcharges, the high-return-rate fee, dangerous goods and lithium battery fees, and Pan-EU or EFN fees.

How it works

How the calculator works out your profit

The calculator follows each pound a shopper pays through to what you keep. Every rate comes from Amazon UK’s own published tables, checked on 1 October 2026, and sits in one data file so it can be updated the day Amazon changes it.

Net profit per unit

Profit = price − VAT on the sale − Amazon fees − VAT on Amazon’s fees − landed cost − shipping into Amazon − advertising

VAT on the sale applies only if you are VAT-registered; VAT on Amazon’s fees only if you are not.

Amazon fees per unit

Amazon fees = referral fee + closing fee + fulfilment fee × 1.015 + 2% × (referral + closing + fulfilment) + storage + returns allowance

The referral fee is a percentage of the full price including VAT, with a £0.25 minimum in most categories.

Storage per unit

Storage = monthly rate × (length × width × height in cm ÷ 28,317) × months in storage

£0.76 per cubic foot per month for most standard-size products from January to September, £1.51 from October to December.

Break-even ACoS

Break-even ACoS = (profit + advertising) ÷ (price ÷ (1 + VAT rate))

Amazon Ads reports sales without VAT, so the price is taken without VAT too.

The size tier decides the fulfilment fee

Amazon reads your packaged dimensions and weight against its size tiers in order, from light envelope to special oversize, and the first tier the product fits is its tier. The calculator does the same and shows you the result, with the shipping weight it used. For parcels and oversize items that is the greater of the unit weight and the dimensional weight (length × width × height ÷ 5,000), so a light but bulky box is charged as if it were heavier. In sixteen categories, including clothing, footwear, grocery and pet food, parcels use seven finer tiers priced on unit weight: a base rate for the first 100 g and a small charge for each extra 100 g.

A worked example

The example loaded in the calculator is an insulated water bottle in Sports and Outdoors, selling at £24.99, packed at 28 × 9 × 9 cm and 420 g. Its dimensional weight is 0.45 kg, so it is a small parcel charged in the 900 g band: £3.04, or £3.09 with the 1.5% surcharge. The referral fee is 15% of £24.99, £3.75, and the digital services fee adds 2% of both, £0.14. Two months of storage costs £0.12 and a 3% return rate adds £0.12. For a VAT-registered seller, £4.17 of the price is VAT.

After a landed cost of £5.20, £0.35 to ship into Amazon and £2.50 of advertising, the bottle makes £5.57 a unit, a 22.3% margin. At 300 units a month that is about £1,670 a month. Its break-even ACoS is 38.7%: £8.07 of margin before advertising, divided by the £20.83 price without VAT.

What the calculator leaves out, and why

We include a fee only when Amazon publishes a rate that applies to the product itself. Fees that depend on your account or your stock levels are left out, rather than guessed: the £25 monthly Professional plan, inbound placement and prep fees, the aged inventory surcharge (from 241 days) and the storage utilisation surcharge (above 22 weeks of stock), the high-return-rate fee, which applies only above thresholds set for each category, extra fees for dangerous goods and lithium batteries, and Pan-EU, European Fulfilment Network and low-inventory fees. The returns allowance assumes returned units can be sold again; if many cannot, add the write-off to your landed cost.

Two details are our reading of Amazon’s tables. For oversize items, Amazon charges a rate “per incremental kg”; we count each started kilogram. And we apply the digital services fee to the fulfilment fee after the fuel surcharge. Each changes the result by a penny or less on a typical product.

Questions

About this tool.

How much does Amazon take per sale in the UK?

On a typical £20 to £30 product sold through FBA, Amazon’s fees come to roughly 25% to 35% of the price: a referral fee (15% in most categories, lower in some), an FBA fulfilment fee of about £2 to £4 for small items, a 2% digital services fee on top of both, a 1.5% fuel and logistics surcharge on the fulfilment fee, and storage. If you are VAT-registered, one sixth of a 20%-VAT price also goes to HMRC. Enter your product above to see the exact split.

How are Amazon FBA fees calculated in the UK?

Amazon puts your packaged product into a size tier from its dimensions and weight, then charges a flat fee for its shipping weight band. For parcels and oversize items the shipping weight is the greater of the unit weight and the dimensional weight (length × width × height in cm ÷ 5,000); envelopes, low-price FBA items and special oversize use unit weight only. Since 17 April 2026 a 1.5% fuel and logistics surcharge is added to the fulfilment fee, and from 15 October 2026 to 14 January 2027 higher festive peak fees apply to parcels and to large and extra-large envelopes.

What is low-price FBA, and does my product qualify?

Low-price FBA is a cheaper fulfilment rate that Amazon applies automatically, with no sign-up. Since 5 January 2026 it covers products priced at £20 or less including VAT in most categories, and £10 or less in Beauty, Health and Personal Care, Business and Industrial Supplies, Office Products, Grocery, Books, Amazon Device Accessories and Kitchen. The product must also fit within 35 × 25 × 12 cm and weigh 400 g or less. The calculator checks all of this for you and shows when the low-price rate applies.

How do VAT and the digital services fee affect my profit?

If you are VAT-registered, the price a shopper pays includes VAT you owe to HMRC: at 20%, that is one sixth of the price. You can normally reclaim the VAT Amazon charges on its fees. If you are not registered, you keep the whole price but pay 20% VAT on Amazon’s fees as a cost. Separately, Amazon adds a 2% digital services fee to referral, closing and fulfilment fees on UK sales. Referral fees are worked out on the full price including VAT.

How is this different from Amazon's Revenue Calculator?

Amazon’s Revenue Calculator shows its own fees for a listed product. This calculator uses the same published UK rates, then adds what Amazon leaves out: VAT on the sale, your landed cost, shipping into Amazon, returns, advertising and your monthly volume, so you see net profit and the break-even ACoS for your ads. Amazon’s measurements of your product decide the final size tier, so check the tier against your Fee Preview report.

Does the calculator include every Amazon fee?

It includes the fees every FBA sale pays and the ones most sellers meet: referral, closing, fulfilment, the fuel surcharge, the digital services fee, monthly storage and the cost of returns. It leaves out fees that depend on your account rather than the product, such as the £25 monthly Professional plan, inbound placement, the aged inventory and storage utilisation surcharges, the high-return-rate fee, dangerous goods fees and Pan-EU fees. The method section lists them.
