Seller Fulfilled Prime UK: the 2026 requirements, the costs and when it beats FBA

Seller Fulfilled Prime keeps the Prime badge on orders you ship from your own warehouse. The bar is high and the weekend shift is not optional, but for bulky and slow products it can leave more profit per unit than FBA. Here are the UK rules and the sums.

The short answer

Seller Fulfilled Prime (SFP) lets you show the Prime badge on orders you ship from your own UK warehouse. To keep it in the UK you need a Professional account, 99% on-time shipment, cancellations of 0.5% or less, Buy Shipping on 98% of Prime orders, an approved carrier and dispatch six days a week. There is no programme fee, and it usually beats FBA on profit for bulky or slow products.

Key takeaways

  1. SFP puts the Prime badge on offers you fulfil yourself. You commit to one-day delivery for Prime members at no extra charge, free standard delivery for everyone else, and Amazon handles customer service.
  2. To stay in, you need 99% on-time shipment, 0.5% or fewer cancellations and Buy Shipping on at least 98% of Prime orders, measured over 7 and 30 days. Miss them and the badge is switched off until Amazon accepts a plan of action.
  3. UK sellers must dispatch six days a week: Monday to Friday plus Saturday or Sunday, with a 16:00 weekday order cut-off. Amazon grants no exceptions to the weekend rule.
  4. There is no SFP fee. You pay the same referral fee as FBA plus your carrier labels, packaging, labour, space and prepaid return labels.
  5. SFP tends to beat FBA where FBA charges for size and time: oversize products with long cover. Small, fast products are usually cheaper through FBA.

From Robert Prime and the Mr. Prime team, who decide, product by product, whether founder-led UK brands fulfil through FBA, Seller Fulfilled Prime or their own warehouse.

Seller Fulfilled Prime is the route to the Prime badge that does not run through Amazon’s warehouses. Your stock stays in your own warehouse or your 3PL’s, you ship each order with an approved carrier, and the offer still shows Prime. In exchange you accept some of the strictest delivery rules Amazon sets for any seller. This guide covers the UK rules as they stood on 1 October 2026, what the programme really costs, and how to tell, product by product, whether it leaves more profit than FBA. For how FBA itself works, start with what Amazon FBA is and when it pays; for the wider choice, including plain merchant fulfilment, see FBA vs FBM.

What Seller Fulfilled Prime is

Amazon describes Seller Fulfilled Prime as the Prime programme that lets you deliver directly to domestic Prime customers from your own warehouse. By showing the badge you commit to one-day delivery at no extra charge for Prime members, and to standard delivery at no extra charge for everyone else2. Amazon handles post-order customer service for these orders, and customers track, request refunds and return items through Amazon.co.uk1.

Amazon positions it as a partner to FBA rather than a rival. It recommends SFP for products that are not suited to FBA, and names the kinds it has in mind: products with seasonal or unpredictable demand, items with many variations, slow-moving goods and stock that needs special handling12. It also says Prime offers compete more effectively for the Featured Offer2, which our Buy Box guide explains.

The UK requirements in 2026

These are the rules on Seller Central UK’s help pages as of 1 October 2026. The UK rules differ from the US in several places, including the trial and the weekend requirement, so check UK pages rather than US guides.

Carriers. Amazon’s enrolment page lists the Prime carriers as Royal Mail, DPD, Amazon Shipping and Evri, with minimum daily volumes of none for Royal Mail and Evri, two parcels for DPD and ten parcels for Amazon Shipping, excluding letters6. Not every page agrees: the shipping pricing page names Amazon Shipping, DPD and Royal Mail, and says Evri’s drop-off service (listed under its old Hermes name) is for standard orders only, not next-day or second-day9. Royal Mail Tracked 24 and Tracked 48 are mandatory if you ship SFP orders with Royal Mail9. Confirm the current carrier list in your own registration workflow before you plan around one.

How you are measured. Amazon reviews SFP performance over seven-day and 30-day windows. Fall below a requirement and Prime eligibility may be suspended until Amazon accepts a plan of action explaining the cause, the fix and how you will prevent it happening again5. Amazon also evaluates eligibility every day; while suspended, you can keep selling without the badge6. A Control Prime Order Volume setting lets you cap daily Prime orders or switch the badge off temporarily when weather, staff absence or a volume spike threatens your metrics5.

Two definitions catch sellers out. A parcel counts as shipped at the carrier’s first scan, not when you confirm dispatch, and any order placed before your cut-off must get that first scan the same day5. And any order on an ASIN linked to the Prime shipping template counts as a Prime order, whatever delivery speed the customer picked and whether or not they are a Prime member4.

The trial period

You cannot buy your way into SFP; you qualify by doing it. The UK process runs in this order:

How a UK seller joins Seller Fulfilled Prime

  1. Check you qualifyProfessional plan in good standing, a mainland UK warehouse and the carrier capacity in the table above.
  2. Complete self-service registrationReview the requirements, register interest with a Prime carrier, set up the Prime shipping template and connect your chosen ASINs to it.
  3. Onboard your carrierSet up your first collection with a supported Prime carrier and buy labels through Buy Shipping.
  4. Run the trialThe trial starts automatically. Your offers show no Prime badge yet, but you must handle trial orders with zero-day handling.
  5. Hit the trial targets25 shipments at 99% on-time shipment, or five separate carrier collections, whichever comes first, with cancellations below 0.5%.
  6. GraduateWithin three days the SKUs on your Prime template show the badge. From then on the metrics are measured on a rolling basis.

The steps are from Amazon’s UK trial and eligibility pages43 and its programme FAQ, which adds the zero-day handling rule during the trial1. The eligibility page words the target as “at least 25 Prime orders"3; the trial page adds the five-collection alternative and says Amazon may change the requirement at its discretion4. If you fail, you can try again4.

In the accounts we manage, we run the trial on a handful of steady, easy-to-pack SKUs and only add the awkward products once the operation has a clean month behind it. The metrics apply to the whole Prime template, so one difficult product can put every other SKU’s badge at risk.

Delivery speed and weekend dispatch

The weekend rule is the one that decides most SFP projects. Since 30 June 2021, UK SFP sellers must dispatch Prime orders six days a week. If you choose Saturday, orders from Friday after cut-off to Saturday before cut-off must leave on Saturday; if you choose Sunday, everything from Friday after cut-off to Sunday’s cut-off must leave on Sunday. Amazon states plainly that it will not grant exceptions7. If you use Easy Ship instead of your own carrier contract, Amazon’s pickups run from 16:00 to 18:00 on weekdays and 12:00 to 14:00 at weekends6.

Carrier limits matter for exactly the bulky products that SFP suits best. Amazon’s UK product selection page sets these outbound limits11:

CarrierLargest parcelHeaviest parcel
Amazon Shipping120 cm on the longest side, 360 cm girth23 kg
DPD100 × 60 × 70 cm31 kg
Royal Mail61 × 46 × 46 cm20 kg
Evri120 cm on the longest side, 225 cm length plus girthPer Evri’s terms

Amazon Shipping does not carry hazardous materials, items containing lithium batteries or products that need age verification11, so a brand selling power tools or aerosols needs another Prime carrier for those lines.

What Seller Fulfilled Prime costs

SFP itself has no fee. Amazon says you pay the standard referral fees and the transport fees of approved carriers1, and that the cost of the programme is the cost of the shipping label bought through Easy Ship, Buy Shipping or the Amazon Shipping website2. The referral fee is the same as for FBA, with one quirk worth knowing in clothing: the lower rate on clothing priced above £40 (15% on the first £40 and 7% on the rest) is written for FBA and Seller Fulfilled Prime offers13. The 2% digital services fee applies to Selling on Amazon and FBA fees13, so on SFP it falls on the referral fee only.

The label is the biggest variable. Amazon Shipping publishes its UK rate card, and its Prime delivery promise means SFP orders need next-day services210:

Amazon Shipping parcel bandSize and weightNext-day, 50 to 99 parcels a dayTwo-day, 50 to 99 parcels a day
Large letter35.3 × 25 × 2.5 cm, under 750 g£3.46£2.60
Small parcel45 × 35 × 16 cm, under 2 kg£3.91£2.95
Standard parcel50 × 40 × 30 cm, under 7 kg£4.85£4.04
Medium parcel61 × 46 × 46 cm, under 15 kg£5.65£4.85
Large parcel67 × 51 × 51 cm, under 20 kg£9.00£8.60

These rates apply to sellers shipping at least 50 parcels a day with Amazon Shipping, across all speeds and channels; rates fall at 100 and 150 parcels a day, and above 200 a day you can negotiate. A 2.5% fuel surcharge applies to the base rate, plus charges such as £2.10 for remote delivery areas and high-cube surcharges for awkward shapes10. DPD and Evri price by volume tier, reset monthly from what you shipped through Buy Shipping, and Royal Mail lets you link your own business account and use your negotiated rates9.

On top of the label sit your own costs: packaging, pick-and-pack labour, warehouse space and software, the weekend shift, and prepaid return labels, which Amazon makes the seller pay for on Prime returns12. The one cost you avoid entirely is the FBA fee stack: no fulfilment fee, no storage per cubic foot, no aged inventory surcharge and no peak fulfilment fee.

When SFP beats FBA on profit per unit

The comparison is one subtraction, product by product. The referral fee is the same either way, so leave it out.

SFP saving per unit sold

FBA cost per unit − SFP cost per unit

FBA cost = fulfilment fee with the 1.5% surcharge and 2% digital services fee, plus storage for the weeks of cover you hold, plus freight and prep into Amazon. SFP cost = next-day label, packaging, pick-and-pack labour, warehouse and software, weekend premium and return labels. A negative answer means FBA is cheaper.

Here are two products from a hypothetical homeware and outdoor brand that ships about 60 parcels a day across all channels, so it qualifies for Amazon Shipping’s 50-to-99 band. Amazon’s fees, storage rates and the carrier rate are published figures; everything else is illustrative, so replace it with your own.

The ottoman’s FBA fee comes from Amazon’s UK table: £4.35 for standard oversize light plus £0.15 for each kilogram above 760 g14, charged on the 19.2 kg dimensional weight (60 × 40 × 40 ÷ 5,000) because it exceeds the 6 kg unit weight. We count each started kilogram, which is our reading of “per incremental kg”. The 1.5% fuel and logistics surcharge has applied since 17 April 202616. Oversize storage is £0.55 per cubic foot a month from January to September and £0.87 from October to December15. The bottle pays the standard small-parcel fee of £3.00 up to 400 g14, because its £22.99 price puts it above the £20 ceiling for low-price FBA rates, which our FBA fees guide explains.

Water bottle via FBA £3.35
Water bottle via SFP £5.18
Storage ottoman via FBA £13.19
Storage ottoman via SFP £10.25
Illustration: fulfilment cost per unit sold through FBA and through Seller Fulfilled Prime for the two example products, January to September. FBA fees and storage from Seller Central UK and the label rate from Amazon Shipping’s rate card, checked 1 October 2026; all other costs illustrative.

The two products point in opposite directions:

  • The water bottle is £1.83 a unit cheaper through FBA. Small, light and fast, it barely pays for storage, and FBA’s fee undercuts a next-day label before packaging and labour are counted.
  • The ottoman is £2.94 a unit cheaper through SFP, and keeps the Prime badge. From October, when oversize storage rises to £0.87 per cubic foot, two months of FBA storage costs £5.90 and the gap widens to £5.11 a unit.

Put the ottoman’s saving into profit. Say it leaves £26.42 a unit after VAT, referral fee, cost of goods and advertising, before fulfilment (illustrative). Through FBA it makes £13.23 a unit; through SFP, £16.17, which is 22% more profit from the same sale at the same price. At two a day that is about £2,150 a year from one product, or more if Q4 is its busy season. Because SFP keeps the badge, you are not trading conversion for the saving, as you would by dropping to plain merchant fulfilment.

When FBA still wins

SFP is a commitment, not a setting. In our experience it is the wrong choice when:

  • The products are small and fast. As the bottle shows, FBA’s fee is hard to beat on a small parcel, and the storage line is pennies.
  • You cannot staff a weekend. The six-day rule has no exceptions7, and paying a Saturday team for a handful of parcels can wipe out the saving.
  • Your volume is too low for good carrier rates. Amazon Shipping’s published rates start at 50 parcels a day10; below that, your label cost per parcel is likely to be higher than the figures above.
  • The products exceed carrier limits or are hazardous, in which case your choice of Prime carriers narrows11.
  • One warehouse is a single point of failure. A missed collection or a bad week of weather hits every SFP SKU at once. FBA spreads that risk across Amazon’s network.

The badge is also only as safe as your worst week. A slip below 99% on-time shipment or above 0.5% cancellations can switch Prime off across the template until a plan of action is accepted5, and that tends to happen in the weeks that matter most.

How to decide, product by product

  1. List the candidates. Start with oversize products and anything with more than eight weeks of cover at Amazon.
  2. Work out FBA’s cost per unit with the FBA calculator, including storage for the cover you actually hold. Our FBA fees guide has every tier.
  3. Cost your own operation honestly: label, packaging, labour, space, the weekend shift and return labels.
  4. Check the operation can carry the metrics: a 16:00 cut-off, a weekend pickup and an on-time rate of 99% or better, every week.
  5. Run the trial on your easiest products first, then move the products where the saving is largest.
  6. Review every quarter. Storage rates change in October, fees change most years, and a product’s sales rate can move it from one column to the other.

Most brands end up with a mix: FBA for the small, fast lines, SFP for the bulky and slow ones, and their own fulfilment for anything left. FBA vs FBM sets out that decision for a whole catalogue, and our guide to Amazon for manufacturers covers what changes when the warehouse also serves trade customers. Frequently asked questions

What is Seller Fulfilled Prime on Amazon UK?
Seller Fulfilled Prime is Amazon’s programme for delivering Prime orders from your own warehouse instead of an Amazon fulfilment centre. Your offers carry the Prime badge, you commit to one-day delivery for Prime members at no extra charge, and Amazon handles customer service for those orders (sources 1, 2).
How much does Seller Fulfilled Prime cost?
There is no programme fee. Amazon says you pay the standard referral fees and the cost of shipping labels from approved carriers (sources 1, 2). Your real costs are the labels, packaging, pick-and-pack labour, warehouse space, a weekend shift and prepaid return labels, which you pay for on Prime returns (source 12).
How long is the Seller Fulfilled Prime trial in the UK?
There is no fixed length. The UK trial lasts until you complete its requirements: 25 shipments with a 99% on-time shipment rate, or five separate collections with an approved Prime carrier, whichever comes first, with a pre-fulfilment cancellation rate below 0.5% and Buy Shipping on your trial orders. The badge is hidden during the trial and appears within three days of passing (source 4).
Do you have to dispatch at weekends for Seller Fulfilled Prime?
Yes. Sellers enrolled in SFP in the UK must operate and send out Prime orders six days a week, Monday to Friday plus Saturday or Sunday, with a weekend carrier pickup at or after 12:00. Amazon says it will not grant exceptions (source 7).
Can I use FBA and Seller Fulfilled Prime at the same time?
Yes, and Amazon encourages it: it describes the two as complementary, with SFP suited to products that are unsuitable for FBA, such as slow-moving items or those with unpredictable demand (sources 1, 2). You choose which SKUs go on the Prime shipping template.
Is Seller Fulfilled Prime better than FBA?
For some products. SFP keeps the Prime badge without FBA’s per-unit fulfilment fee and storage charges, so it usually wins for oversize and slow-moving products. For small, fast sellers FBA is usually cheaper and carries no weekend operation or performance risk. Compare the cost per unit for each product, as in the worked example above.
