How to sell on TikTok Shop UK: a step-by-step guide for brands (2026)
Opening a TikTok Shop takes an afternoon. Making it pay takes a plan for content, creators and cash flow that most new shops skip. Here is the whole path for a UK brand, from registration to the first payout, with the rules that catch people out.

The short answer
Key takeaways
- Companies need UK registration details, a UK business address, a VAT number and a business representative who lives in the UK. Sole traders need a UK-issued passport or driving licence and a selfie with it.
- Pick fulfilment before you list: Shipped via Platform (you pack, TikTok’s couriers deliver), Fulfilled by TikTok (TikTok stores and ships) or your own courier.
- Restricted categories such as beauty, electricals, toys and dangerous goods need supporting documents before you can list. Digital media and apps are not supported at all.
- New shops start on probation at up to 30 orders a day, rising to 50, and must keep TikTok’s ONRR measure at 1.5% or less to graduate.
- Most growth comes from creators. Set commission from your margin, plan samples, and budget for 31 days between delivery and payout.

From Robert Prime and the Mr. Prime team, who open, run and grow TikTok Shop accounts for founder-led UK brands alongside their Amazon accounts.
TikTok Shop puts a checkout inside the videos, LIVEs and search results people already use on TikTok. For a brand, that means two jobs at once: running a marketplace shop, with its own rules, limits and fees, and keeping a steady flow of content, most of it made by creators you pay per sale. This guide covers both, in the order you will meet them, using TikTok Shop UK’s own policies. For the money side in detail, see TikTok Shop fees in the UK; if you are deciding between channels, start with TikTok Shop vs Amazon.
Step 1: Check you can sell, and what
Who can register. TikTok Shop UK accepts companies (privately owned, publicly listed, state-owned and charities) and sole traders2. Individual sellers must be 18 or over and able to enter a binding contract3. The UK seller terms apply to sellers resident or established in the UK3.
What you can sell. Three lists decide it:
- Prohibited products can never be sold, from illegal drugs and their paraphernalia to named cosmetic ingredients banned in the UK and substances such as SARMs and DMAA7.
- Unsupported products are not allowed for now. They include digital media, apps, websites and blogs7, so TikTok Shop UK is for physical goods.
- Restricted products can be sold only after TikTok approves your supporting documents and product attributes. The list includes beauty products, electrical products and electronics, dangerous goods such as battery-powered products and aerosols, surprise-based products such as mystery boxes, and toys6. Some categories are invite-only6.
If you sell in a restricted category, gather the documents before you register: certificates, test reports and product and packaging images, with labels, batch numbers and safety warnings in English6. TikTok reviews them before the product can go live, and the documents it asks for vary by product6.
Step 2: Register in Seller Center
You sign up at TikTok Shop Seller Center with a TikTok account, a UK phone number or an email address2. What you need next depends on your seller type.
| Company | Sole trader | |
|---|---|---|
| Business details | Entity type, registration number, legal name, registration date, business address with proof, VAT number1 | Full legal name, date of birth, residential address with proof1 |
| Identity | A passport or driving licence for a business representative, who must be a UK resident with proof of address1 | A passport or driving licence issued by the UK government, and a selfie holding it2 |
| Also needed | Bank account details, tax information, a warehouse address with proof1 | The same |
Two rules catch people out. The business representative must be a local resident: larger enterprises can sometimes use a representative outside the UK, at TikTok’s discretion1. And the names must match: the representative named on your company registration must be the one you register on TikTok Shop, and the business name must be legible on every document you upload1. TikTok may also ask who owns 25% or more of the company1.
Step 3: Choose how you will ship
Decide this before you list, because it sets your delivery promise and your cost per order. TikTok Shop UK offers three routes8:
- Shipped via Platform. You pack each order; TikTok’s courier partners collect and deliver it at a per-parcel rate from TikTok’s rate card.
- Fulfilled by TikTok (FBT). You send stock to a TikTok warehouse, which stores, picks, packs and delivers orders.
- Shipped by seller. You use your own courier and submit tracking in Seller Center3.
Brands that already run Amazon FBA often start with Shipped via Platform from their own warehouse or 3PL, then move fast sellers into FBT once demand is steady. Our fees guide compares the costs.
Step 4: List your products, priced for TikTok
Listing works much like any marketplace: title, images, variants, price and stock. Two things are different.
Price for the whole order, not the commission. TikTok Shop UK’s commission is 9%, including VAT, on most categories, and it is worked out on the order total including shipping the customer pays9. But creator commission, samples and ads usually cost more than the commission. Run each product through the TikTok Shop fee calculator before you set a price, and find the highest creator rate it can afford.
Show the product in use. Shoppers on TikTok arrive from video. The first image and the first second of every video should show the product doing what it promises.
Step 5: Make content and go LIVE
Connect your brand’s TikTok account to the shop so your own videos and LIVEs can carry product links. Your own content does three jobs: it sells directly, it shows creators what works, and it gives GMV Max ads something to run. Plan a weekly rhythm you can keep, rather than a launch burst.
Step 6: Bring in creators
Affiliate creators are how most TikTok Shops grow. You set a commission rate per product, creators add the product to their videos and LIVEs, and they earn that commission on each order they drive, paid on a schedule tied to your settlement period12. TikTok’s own UK playbook suggests 10% to 15% as an average rate11.
Set the rate from your margin, not the playbook. A creator order costs you the commission plus a share of the samples you sent; on a thin-margin product, 15% can turn every creator sale into a loss. Our TikTok Shop affiliate guide covers open and targeted plans, samples and how to choose creators.
Step 7: Get through probation
Every new UK shop starts on TikTok’s Shop Probation Program1. At Beginner status you can receive up to 30 orders a day; at Standard status, up to 504. To graduate, TikTok requires an ONRR of 1.5% or less5, one of its measures of orders that go wrong.
In practice: ship on time, answer messages within a day, describe products accurately, and resist a big creator push until you are out of probation. A viral video that brings 500 orders into a shop capped at 30 a day helps nobody.
Step 8: Advertise with GMV Max
TikTok Shop advertising runs through GMV Max: you choose the products, a target ROI and a budget, and TikTok does the rest. Set the target from your margin, because the ROI it reports includes organic and creator orders. Our GMV Max guide explains how to set and read it.
Step 9: Get paid, and plan the cash
TikTok Shop pays new UK sellers 31 days after delivery. After that the standard period is 8 days, with faster 3-day and 1-day tiers for sellers who meet TikTok’s performance criteria10. Customers can ask for a return or refund within 30 days of delivery13.
Creator commission, samples, stock and ads are all paid before your first payout arrives. Budget for at least six weeks of costs before money comes back, and more if you are holding stock in FBT.
What we would do first
For an established UK brand opening TikTok Shop, our order of work is: pick three to five products with a margin that can carry creator commission; run them through the fee calculator; register and set up Shipped via Platform; post your own content for two weeks; then open an affiliate plan at a rate the numbers support, and add GMV Max once you have videos that sell. Measure every step on profit per order, not on GMV.

How this guide was made
Written by Robert Prime and reviewed by Atouka Tsochataridis at Mr. Prime, which runs TikTok Shop and Amazon accounts for UK brands and is a TikTok Shop partner agency. We used AI tools to help research and draft it; Robert edited it and takes responsibility for it. Every requirement, limit and fee was checked against the TikTok Shop Seller Center UK page listed above on 2 October 2026; because TikTok’s pages block automated access, we read them through search-engine copies and quote them word for word where we can. TikTok changes its rules often, so check Seller Center before you act on a limit or a fee.
Every figure above links to the primary source it came from, and we recheck them when Amazon changes its fees or definitions. Read our editorial standards. Spotted something wrong? Tell us through our contact page and we will correct it and note the change here.
